Amongst Faerie Oaks
By Richard H. Fay
Sunlight
dapples bracken
and nodding bluebell caps
while ancient oaks cling to shreds of
pale mist.
Pale mist
parts as the wood
awakens with a sigh,
rousing sprites hidden within deep
shadows.
Shadows
dart bole-to-bole
as fallen leaves rustle,
stirred by swift footsteps or merely
soft winds.
Soft winds
whisper through trees,
spreading sylvan secrets
yet revealing woodland truths to
no one.
No one
of mortal kind
dances beneath grey boughs,
only murky forms dissolved by
sunlight.
