Fool, Devil, Drunkard, Clown
By Richard H. Fay
During your miserable existence
Dulled by alcoholism and denseness,
Darkened by rancor and abusiveness,
Drawn short by addictions and mindlessness,
You cracked jokes at the expense of others,
You harangued, harassed, and harried others,
You threatened the precious lives of others,
You flung wisecracks and doled out drolleries,
You voiced menacing remarks and sick gibes,
You blustered, browbeat, bothered, and badgered,
You berated, bullied, and belittled,
You insulted and intimidated,
You acted as your father’s truest son,
You easily played both fool and devil
(Though just like with your detestable dad,
Wretched drunkard was closest to the mark).
Truth be told, clown, I got the last laugh —
I outlived you!
Who’s laughing now?
